Good Places to Eat in Santana Row

Good Places to Eat in Santana Row

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to good places to eat in Santana Row, a wonderful shopping, dining, entertainment and residential complex in San Jose, California. The atmosphere and diversity of Santana Row is well reflected in the great choice of cuisines and venues on offer. From casual to gourmet, there truly is something for everyone.

Of course a surfeit of choice can often be daunting, particularly if you are only in the Row for a short time. My husband and I visit regularly so we know a number of good places to eat in Santana Row. There’s the Yard House for craft ales, lagers and great food, Thea for delicious Mediterranean dishes, Cocola for coffee and beautiful pastries and Pizza Antica for pizza made with artisanale ingredients. And then there are the outstanding places –  the restaurants that have consistently impressed us – the ones we return to time and time again.

Lobster Arrabiata at Lark Creek Blue

Lark Creek Blue
Lark Creek Blue is my favourite place for seafood in Santana Row but meat eaters are well catered for too with USDA Prime steaks and domestic lamb as menu highlights. Participants in the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch, Lark Creek Blue offer sustainably fished seafood as well as traceable meats. Innovative starters, delicious sides and tempting desserts feature on their seasonal menu. Our favourites include Lobster Arrabiata and their delicious domestic lamb. Don’t miss Lark Creek’s beautiful salads and tasty clam chowder. As for dessert, I recommend their Butterscotch Pudding, although my husband would recommend their fruit crisps –  especially their Spring Pear Crisp.

We have dined at Lark Creek Blue as a couple and in groups. Service is discreet and efficient and great care is taken to be sure that your meal is both enjoyable and memorable. The open plan kitchen means you can see your meal being prepared from much of the restaurant. It’s a great conversation starter!

Asparagus Appetizer and Local Petrale Sole at The Village Bistro

The Village Bistro
Love innovative California cuisine? The Village Bistro is the place for you. The sleek, modern interior is intimate yet convivial and the service  is excellent. Favourites include their inimitable Turkey Reuben and delicious Zinfandel Braised Short Ribs. The local Petrale Sole is also outstanding. Don’t miss the Crème Brûlée – the flavours change with the seasons. It’s the best we’ve had anywhere in the world.

Order a la carte or choose from two set menus which offer fantastic value for money and a great selection of dishes. The Village Bistro’s wine list is extensive and offers choices at every price point. Their flights of wines are a great way to try something different without breaking the bank.

I’ve dined here several times at both lunch and dinner time, as a couple, for ladies’ lunches and in groups. Having celebrated more than one birthday here I can also say that The Village Bistro is a great place for a celebration.

LB Steak
The atmosphere at LB Steak is contemporary yet elegant and their Prime Steaks are absolutely delicious. The menu is fairly straight-forward as this is very much a steak house, however LB do offer some seafood dishes. My favourite steak is their Prime Rib Eye as it cooks beautifully to my preferred medium well. My husband always orders the filet. Starters and sides are scrumptious but huge – you really do need to share. An extremely extensive wine list can be a bit intimidating but the sommelier is happy to help and the waiters are quite knowledgable too. The wine list is expensive here but seriously very good.

My husband and I have celebrated his birthday – and our anniversary which is the same day – at LB Steak for several years running. The service is absolutely excellent and we’ve always been made to feel very special.

Santana Row is a wonderful place to stay but an even better place to eat. Try one of our favourite restaurants or discover one of your own but if you find yourself in San Jose be sure to avail yourself of the delightful dining options offered in Santana Row.

This is not a sponsored post and I have not been compensated in any way by Santana Row or the restaurants mentioned.

  1. It’s really been too long since I’ve ventured down as far as Santana Row – an oversight that you’ve inspired me to correct! These food photos are beautiful, too.
