It has been a really busy few weeks here with travelling, an upcoming move (for our son), and a few surprises (mostly good!) along the way. I am still catching up with last week’s commenting/sharing etc. due to the fact I fell ill with food poisoning during the last few days of our trip to California, but I will get up to date soon!

You may notice the party has started a bit early this week. That is because Monday is my birthday so my husband, family and I are travelling up to London to celebrate. We are staying at the beautiful Ritz Hotel and I look forward to sharing more of our celebrations with you on FacebookTwitter & Instagram.

This may seem a bit odd in view of the terrible attacks in London again Saturday night, our third terrorist attack in the UK in as many months. We are reeling from these assaults on our communities and our way of life, and from the sheer, unacceptable and horrific violence we are experiencing. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these terrible attacks, and with their famiies and friends.

However, my family and I are still going to London.

Changing our plans would be capitulating to the evil people who are attempting to disrupt the British way of life.

Now, more than ever, whatever the situations or politics of our countries, and in many cases because of them, we all need the values of hearth and soul to help nourish and restore us, bring us back to centre, and allow us to move forward in a world that is forever changed.

Please join us with your blog posts & celebrate the joys of hearth and soul – in fact, all the things that feeds your soul!

Last week on the blog I shared one of my favourite ways to cook salmon.

Step by Step Instructions for How To Poach Salmon to use in easy salmon recipes

It is so easy to poach salmon and it’s the first step to so many delicious seafood dishes!

  1. Happy birthday, April!! I hope your celebration is joyous and filled with love and smiles! The internet is an amazing tool that is used for good and evil. I love how it makes the world smaller. The internet allows me to befriend a blogger a world away, who I never would have known without the internet! To be honest, I wondered if I should be posting 4th of July links at your linky party, considering the origins of the holiday! 😉 But, I also love how the internet makes it possible to celebrate with one another and share celebrations that may differ from place to place; birthdays, national holidays, religious holidays. It is hard not to be scared sometimes of the evil in the world, but there is more love than evil. Joining together gives power to the values of hearth and home as we move forward.

    • Thank you so much, Wendy 🙂 That is so kind of you! And I totally agree 🙂 It really is wonderful how we can befriend people so far away, and all join together and celebrate. I love a good 4th of July party and I’m so glad you shared your links 🙂 Have a lovely week ahead!

  2. Happy Birthday, April!
    Thank you for the party!
Best wishes to you and yours.

  6. April, I hope you have a splendid time at The Ritz and that there will be no further incidents in London. I’ll be back on Thursday to link that day’s post, something to enjoy with a nice cup of tea!

  7. Happy birthday and hope you have a spectacular get away day. Thank you for hosting the party.

  8. Happy Birthday to April, Happy Birthday to April!

I agree we cannot let the evil of others dominate our lives. I don’t live in the UK but I join with you as I believe all good people have to support each other in these horrible times.

    God bless, Miss April

  9. April,

  12. Happy Birthday April! Can’t wait to hear more about your California trip because that is where I am from! I loved your article about poached salmon. I love salmon but I haven’t tried poaching it. I will definitely be giving it a try!

  13. Have fun and stay safe!

  14. Happy birthday! I hope you enjoy your trip to London. I agree with you that we have to persevere, regardless. And, oddly, I was in London about 28 summers ago, and while I was there, a bomb went off somewhere near Harrod’s. Some things just never change.

    • Thank you so much, Michele! Oh my goodness, that was a very well remembered incident – there is a memorial outside Harrods to those who were killed. I’m glad you were not in the vicinity at the time!

  15. Happy Birthday April!! I hope you are feeling back to normal soon. 🙂 I love the updated linky party image. It’s just gorgeous and so fitting for you and your blog!

    • Thank you, Sammi! I really am feeling so much better. I’m so glad you like the party images – thank you for the compliment! Laura of Pixel Me Designs designed them 🙂

  16. Happy Birthday, April! Thanks so much for featuring my post! 🙂

  17. Happy belated birthday April! And thank you for hosting again. I’m excited to be sharing a great post on gratitude this week. I’ve truly learned a lot just by writing it and am starting a gratitude journal today! And I want to start by thanking everyone at the party for sharing all your hard work with us all. ?

  18. Happy Birthday, April! Wishing you safe, fun travels!

  19. Hey April! Thanks for hosting the party! The link to the Facebook Page isn’t working for me. Is the Facebook page still functioning?

  20. Happy Birthday to you!

  21. Completely agreed, April. No reason to give into fear and allow that to destroy your celebrations. Sending prayers for many reasons to say cheers! May all your birthday wishes come true <3

  22. Happy Birthday April! I hope you had a wonderful celebration and are feeling better each day. For this week’s Hearth and Soul Hop, I brought you my brand new Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cheesecake for those times when you absolutely must have a sweet indulgence! Thanks so much for all you do…your generous support is so appreciated!

    • Thank you so much, Linda 🙂 I really am feeling a lot better, although it’s taken me longer to recover totally thank I expected! I am very excited about your ultimate cheesecake! I do love a treat 😉 Thank you so much for your support as well! Have a lovely week!

  23. Dear April, I wish, you had a marvellous birthday. Despite the horrible facts of last Saturday, life, must go on and, in my opinion, you and your family made the correct decision, travelling to London and enjoying your stay as much as possible.
Terrorists are attempting to disrupt the British way of life and also the life of the families who have lost a most beloved member.
Love the ways you cook salmon. I’m a fish lover and salmon is one of my favourites.
All the best for you in this new year. Get all that feed your heart & soul.

  24. April, came back today with my just-posted Bakewell Tart Traybake, a doubled and streamlined version of my Classic Bakewell Tart. I look forward to reading more about your travels (including your food poisoning).

    • Thank you, Jean! I always like a good Bakewell, no matter what form it comes in, so I’m looking forward to visiting your post 🙂 Have a lovely weekend.

  25. Hi April–I linked up on the run for this particular week and didn’t get to thank you for featuring my gluten-free Angel Food Cake recipe roundup. I really appreciate it! I also haven’t checked out any of these recipes or this past week’s posts. Must play catch up! 😉

    Happy weekend!
