The Statement Sweater: A New Fall Wardrobe Staple

CAbi Shadow SweaterIf you are looking to give your wardrobe a new lease on life without spending a fortune, one of the key pieces you should invest in is a statement sweater. I found mine – CAbi’s Shadow Sweater – at the CAbi Style Suite.

A statement sweater is the new casual blazer and a perfect addition to any wardrobe. It’s great for busy moms, whether on the school run, at a PTA meeting, play date or heading out to lunch with friends. It works well as a relaxed but still professional look in an office setting, and on the weekend, whether you are shopping, antiquing or meeting friends for brunch, you will look stylish but still feel cosy on those crisp fall days.

Paired with jeans and a classic white blouse, the statement sweater is the perfect smart casual look. Mine are by DKNY and Ann Taylor respectively. You could make the look more formal with a pair of great tailored pants.

I’ve kept my accessories super simple here – a cute pair of dangly earrings and a bold red lip – but you could also try layering necklaces for a stronger style statement. A reversible leather belt by Ralph Lauren defines my waist and my super comfy black boots are a wedge heeled style from Stuart Weitzman’s Fall 2010 collection.

Switch up the look with a tailored t-shirt or soft tunic in a rich grey or black. Statement sweaters also pair well with plain jersey dresses in neutral or bold colours.

While they can be investment pieces, statement sweaters are great value for money. They are versatile, stylish and a fabulous transition piece fall to winter and winter to spring. If your budget is limited but you want to give your wardrobe a real boost, consider a statement sweater as your key fall 2012 fashion purchase.

I was given the CAbi Shadow Sweater as a gift at the CAbi Style Suite. The opinions in this post are my own.
