My husband and I loved visiting Bermuda and I’m excited to share some of it with you!
I had always dreamed of visiting Bermuda and in particular of staying at the beautiful and historic hotel, The Hamilton Princess. Only a few blocks from Hamilton’s main street (Front Street), the iconic pink Princess is a smaller, more intimate hotel than its sister property The Fairmont Southampton.
I’m not really a lie on the beach person so the gorgeous infinity pool with views out to sea suited me perfectly. We spent ten wonderful days there, alternately relaxing and sightseeing. Here are some of the highlights of our visit.
Places to Go When Visiting Bermuda
The Royal Naval Dockyard
We travelled by ferry from Hamilton to The Royal Naval Dockyard. Used by the British Navy from just after the American Revolution until the 1960’s, the Royal Naval Dockyard is now very much a tourist attraction but a beautiful one at that. We enjoyed strolling through the walls of the old fortress and visiting the wonderful craft shops and art galleries around the dockyard. We also had a delicious pub lunch at The Frog and Onion – one of the most authentic pubs I’ve visited outside the United Kingdom. Their fish and chips were exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed a refreshing pint of their delicious St David’s Lager.
The Historic Town of St George
St George is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was the earliest English urban settlement in the New World. It’s very pretty with gorgeous sea views. There’s so much to do in St George that my husband and I barely scratched the surface. My favourite places so far are the beautiful, welcoming St Peter’s Church, the oldest continually used Anglican church in the western hemisphere, the St George Historical Society Museum at Mitchell House (photo above – top right) and the myriad of lovely little craft and souvenir shops offering gorgeous linens and blown glass. Although it was very hot we had a lovely walk, the highlights of which were Unfinished Church (bottom left) and the State House (bottom right). Don’t miss the delicious Wahoo (a tasty, firm white fish) served every way you can imagine at the aptly named Wahoo’s Bistro and Patio.
The Beaches
You can walk for miles from Horseshoe Bay along to Warwick Long Bay. The waters are crystal clear and the most beautiful shade of blue. The sand really is pink, not the bright cotton candy pink you might expect but rather a beautiful burnished coral shade. These were among the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, and Horseshoe Bay was my absolute favourite.
Hamilton
Hamilton is Bermuda’s capital city and is full of historic buildings and gardens as well as lots of shops and restaurants. There’s a friendly, relaxed feel to Hamilton and you could wander for hours. Waterfront Square, located beside the main ferry terminal, is a lovely place to relax. Don’t miss the tiny historic Perot Post Office, named after Bermuda’s first postmaster general. You can also visit Fort Hamilton built to protect the harbour in 1889. Shopping is very good in Hamilton with department and designer stores alike. It even has a small branch of iconic British department store Marks & Spencer.
Sometimes when you visit a place you have dreamed of for years it has trouble living up to the expectations you have of it but visiting Bermuda was even better than I had hoped it would be. There is so much more to discover here and I look forward to returning again (hopefully) very soon.

Your visit sounds just about perfect April. I would love to be able to take a destination vacation like this with my husband! I know we’d love the beaches, but I love architecture as well so the unfinished church and other buildings you share from your walk intrigues me as well.

I hope you get to Bermuda one day soon, Nina! It’s definitely one for the bucket list. I felt so lucky when I finally got to go there – I’d been dreaming of the trip since I was a little girl. (My Auntie used to visit and I thought it sounded like the most wonderful place!) It definitely did not disappoint! My husband and I are hoping to return one day soon.

As I shared earlier, we just love Bermuda. Our first trip there was in 1984. Mr. GFE was in a sailboat race from Annapolis, MD to Bermuda. It took him 4 days of intense sailing and me 2 hours of relaxed flying to get there. 😉 His sailboat crew got 3rd in their class (theirs was only a 33-ft boat!) and received the trophy from the Premier of Bermuda on tv. It was all pretty cool. Going back, they hit a full gale and it was a very scary 6 days. Thankfully, we didn’t know that was going on. Communications were much different at that time. Also at that time in Bermuda, you had to dress (women in dresses, men in jackets and ties) for every meal out. That made the moped travel interesting, but we loved it all. We’ve been back several times since and always been totally charmed by the island and its people. So glad that you all had the same type of fabulous experience!
