With Canadian Thanksgiving fast approaching, I’m thinking a lot about abundance and gratitude at the moment. Welcome to The Hearth and Soul Link Party!
The Hearth and Soul Link Party welcomes blog posts about anything that feeds the soul. Things that feed the soul may include (but are not limited to) recipes, decorating, crafts, family, home, DIY, organization, travel, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
NB. Please only share blog posts. Unfortunately links to Facebook posts etc will be deleted.
Even with all the strange and worrying things happening in the world and in our own lives this year, we can almost always find examples of abundance and something to be grateful for. Canadian Thanksgiving next weekend has brought this very much into my heart. I pray that whatever challenges you may be facing, you are feeling the blessings of abundance in some form or another and that there are many things in your life to be grateful for.
What’s Been Happening
We all need Thanksgiving, and I’m preparing for a much looked forward to Thanksgiving visit from our son and his partner. Of course, I’m concerned that no more restrictions are put in place in our areas of the UK before they arrive, but it seems that we are sticking to ‘the rule of 6’ for now. As there are only 4 of us, please God we should be okay.
I’m looking forward to doing lots of fall baking for our Thanksgiving celebrations. This loaf cake is definitely on the short list of possible bakes.
You won’t believe how delicious my Butternut Pecan Loaf Cake is! Wholesome, nutty & delicious, it’s easy to make and perfect for afternoon tea or snacks. It’s a wonderful way to use up leftover butternut squash – although I’ve been known to cook a butternut squash with the sole intention of making this cake.
I’m also thinking ahead to (gulp!) Christmas as there are some things it’s a great idea to get started with early.
One of these things is our Traditional British Christmas Cake. This truly vintage family recipe has been in our family for 4 generations – and it tastes amazing!

I’ve always been jealous of the Canadian Thanksgiving. Seems like the perfect time to celebrate Thanksgiving versus right before Christmas. Enjoy, April!
I’ve salivated over your Butternut Pecan Loaf before. I’ve got butternut squash coming in this week’s produce box. I’ll use it to make a GF version. 🙂
This week I’m sharing Lemon Ricotta Cake Muffins (although instructions for making the traditional cake are also included) and a seasonal favorite, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Donuts.

Thank you so much for featuring my rhythm of home blog post. That British Christmas cake looks so delicious. I’m not sure I would have the patience to make one look so professional but it would probably taste just as good even if it didn’t look quite as smooth.

The food looks so very yummy. I had a bunch of co-workers who thought I was secret Canadian because as they put it “I was too nice to be American and I went about life like a Canadian.” Plus, I liked the CFL, Rush and Bob & Doug. The way people think.
Happy Thanksgiving in advance. Thanks for hosting and have a great week.
April Harris says
Thank you, Patrick! How interesting your co-workers thought you were Canadian! And thank you also for the Thanksgiving wishes. I hope you have a great week too!

I am looking forward to the weekend, as it is also my SO’s birthday (on the 14th). With everything going on, I hope that we will be able to celebrate with our social bubble (his family). If not, we will make the best of it, just the 4 of us. Thank you for hosting and I hope you have a wonderful week, April <3
