My Best Cake Recipes of 2014

Best Cake Recipes 2014 Ever since I was little, I’ve loved baking cakes.  Whether it’s an old family recipe, a cake from my favourite cookbook or a recipe I’ve developed myself, there’s something so satisfying about making a cake. Not only is the process itself therapeutic but I’ve yet to meet anyone whose eyes don’t light up at the idea of a nice slice of cake. And making other people happy makes me happy too.

I truly believe that it is just as easy to make most cakes from scratch as it is to make a cake mix. There are a few more ingredients and a couple extra steps but the results are so much better. It also means that there are no unpronounceable ingredients (aka additives, E numbers and preservatives) in your cake so it’s better for you too. I have so many favourite recipes – from my Auntie Margaret’s Spice Cake to my son’s all time favourite Traditional Marble Cake, I have lost count of the number of cake recipes I have blogged over the years. These are my best cake recipes of 2014.

We faced a few challenges last year and I probably baked less than I ever have – so much so that one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to bake more! My best cake recipes are my favourites from the cakes I did bake and I’m proud of each and every one of them. Most are easy, all are delicious. I hope these tried and tested, best cake recipes of 2014 will become favourites in your kitchen in 2015 and beyond!

Apple Butterscotch Cake
My Apple and Butterscotch Cake looks seriously impressive but it’s actually incredibly easy to make and decorate. Moist and delicious, this is the perfect cake to enjoy for afternoon tea or for dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Lemon Drizzle Cake
Traditional Lemon Drizzle Cake is a British favourite. This syrup soaked sponge is incredibly moist with a lovely tangy flavour.

Easy Devil's Food Cake
My Easy Devil’s Food Cake is one of my personal favourites. It takes very little time to make and the results are scrumptious. The recipe also makes lovely cupcakes.

Coffee and Almond Cake
This Coffee and Almond Cake is a real treat. The flavours may sound grown up but kids love this nutty, coffee spiked cake just as much as adults do!

Easy Almond Cake
Another cake that looks like it takes way more effort than it actually does, this tender, tasty Easy Almond Cake can be made in advance and keeps really well.

So there you have it, my Best Cake Recipes of 2014. I hope that you and yours enjoy them as much as my family, friends and I do!

well well well! Where do I start with my baking! They all look so good, and I think I am going to try your coffee and almond cake first. I never tried with almonds, I’ve always used walnuts, so I am curious to the flavour. I love almond cake and coffee cake so I will… MUST try these in a combo! Very inspiring! Thank you 🙂
