What’s New?
How are things in your corner of the world? I’m very grateful that there are only 7 cases of COVID-19 in the part of England where I live at the moment, but we are still proceeding with great caution!
My husband Guy and I had our first (non-takeaway) coffee since lockdown this week at our favourite local restaurant. We felt so comfortable we have booked dinner there early one evening next week.
Guy and I are planning a little overnight stay in a hotel in the New Forest in the near future, as well as one at Cliveden House Hotel in September. Cliveden (pronounced KLYV – DUHN) dates from 1666 and has an extremely interesting history. It will be our second visit to Cliveden, You can find out more about the history of this amazing house, and see some photos from our first visit six years ago by clicking on the link. This visit promises to be extra special, as my husband has booked a suite with a very interesting history. ❤️ I can’t wait to share our adventures both in the New Forest and at Cliveden with you!

It’s really hot here at the moment, between 28 and 36 degrees Celcius (high eighties to mid-nineties Fahrenheit). We are eating most meals outside, and really enjoying barbecues or cooling salads. This is one of my favourite main dish salads, but it also makes fabulous sandwiches and wraps.
My Coronation Chicken Salad is based on a vintage recipe with a very royal history. To find out more and get the recipe, please click here.

It’s a pleasure, Michelle! Look forward to seeing you next week 🙂 Hope this is a lovely week for you!
I so appreciate your faithfulness here!
Thank you for the lovely compliment, Michele. That means a lot to me! I appreciate your support of Hearth and Soul too!
I’m a fan of baked potatoes as well, so I’ll have to check out that feature. Thanks for hosting! I brought by some Balsamic Roasted Pineapple. Hope you enjoy. 🙂
I will definitely enjoy Balsamic Roasted Pineapple! What a great idea, CJ. I look forward to the recipe.
Thanks for hosting each week. Have a safe and happy week…
Thank you, Nora! I hope you have a safe and happy week too.
That’s great that you have so few COVID cases! Unfortunately they are still rising in our area, but not quite as much as they had been. Hopefully the case numbers will go down soon. It’s been hot here, too. I’m thankful for air conditioning and iced beverages!
We really are blessed, Barbara. I hope that your case numbers go down soon. I do wish we had air conditioning. Very few private homes have it in the UK because “it’s only hot for a couple of days each year”. I’m not sure they realise how much air conditioning can help with taking humidity out of the air the rest of the time! We do have iced beverages though 😉 Take care.
Hi April,
Hope you have a fantastic week and thanks so much for the party!
Miz Helen
Thank you so much, Miz Helen! I hope your week is wonderful too.
How fortunate to have so fewhigh cases of COVID there! Where I am the cases seem to remain high enough to keep us home most of the time, although I do see younger people living life as normal as they can.
Thanks for hosting every week, April!
We really are blessed, Pat. I’m sorry that cases are still high in your area, but I’m glad you are staying safe. Take care.
It’s been very hot here since May — high eighties/low nineties and loads of humidity. Throw in regular afternoon thunderstorms and we’d be staying inside whether or not we were staying at home! I wish I could say the same about the caseload here. My county reported more than 3000 cases last week. If only everyone did the simplest things asked of them. sigh
Oh Sandra, it sounds like you’ve really been going through it! That’s a long time to be so very hot and humid. I’m really sorry about the cases in your county too. I agree, it’s so simple, and yet some people find it so hard to do the things they should! Please do take care.
April,
thank you for another great party!
I enjoy it every week.
Have a great time.
many greetings to you and yours
Uwe

Hi April, Glad you got to get out this week! Such a crazy time we’re living it! I definitely need to try the coronation chicken salad. Thanks for hosting the link-up! Have a great week!
Thank you, Marielle. They really are crazy times. I hope you enjoy the salad, and that your week is going well too!
Wow, only 7 cases locally! My county (in Pennsylvania) is still having about 60 new diagnoses per day, but at least that’s a decrease from the several weeks in July when we had over 100 and sometimes over 300 per day. We had been doing well here until summer began and people started traveling to beaches, etc, in other states at exactly the same time as restaurants were reopening to indoor dining! We are relieved that things are starting to look better but not going to any indoor gatherings yet.
I’m so glad your local cases are diminishing, Becca. I think it’s important to take things slowly, and at your own speed, depending on where you live and how you feel.
How fun to get out with your husband for coffee! I look forward to hearing about your stays at those different places. Thanks for hosting and have a nice week April.
Thank you, Julie! I hope you are having a lovely week as well!
Thank you for hosting! This is what I featured the week of 8-3 to 8-7 on my blog. On Tuesday was Banana Cream Pie with Hazelnut Crust. Wednesday was Apple Crumb Pie. Thursday was Maple Pecan Pie. And winding up this week was my No Bake Chocolate Cream Pie with Oreo Crust. Enjoy!
I do love pie, Marilyn! I look forward to your posts!
Looks like a wonderful time out. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
Thank you, Patrick. I hope your week is a great one too! I appreciate your support of Hearth and Soul!
I’m a little late to the party but thanks so much for highlighting my ice cream sandwich roundup, April! I see lots here that I want this week. Looks like I need to make a GF version of your Sweet Potato Bread and Marilyn’s Maple Pecan Pie. Plus, those naturally gluten-free Potato Pancakes are calling my name!
As today is both National Banana Split Day and S’mores Day per Foodimentary, I’ve linked up Chocolate Banana Split Muffins and my Cookie S’mores. 🙂
Have a great week, April!
Shirley
It’s a pleasure, Shirley! I’d love to know how you get on with a GF version of the Sweet Potato Bread. I haven’t tried it yet! I do hope to do more GF baking in future.
Thank you for visiting and sharing. I hope you have a wonderful week as well. 🙂
Thank you so much for hosting! This week I am sharing 15 of my favorite audiobooks, and our wall mural from a vintage fishing ad! Hope you are having a great week!
Thank you for visiting and sharing, Kristin! I hope your week is going well too!
Last I knew most of the towns around us had between 5 & 7 cases too; though we have been cautioned that that will most likely rise as the kids return to school. I can’t wait to hear all about your trip!
I hope your cases will stay low when the kids return to school. We have similar worries here. And thank you! I’m getting excited now 🙂
Oohh those coffees look so delicious! What a nice date.
It really was, Alexandra 🙂
April,
It must have felt great to finally sit in a restaurant outdoors! We haven’t done restaurants yet. It’s also really hot here so we are enjoying eating outdoors on our deck with some salads, cold soups, and some ice cream pops for dessert. I’m heading over to read your wardrobe post. Thanks for hosting.
It was very cool, Judee! Last night we returned for dinner inside, and I was so pleased to really enjoy it. There are dividers between the tables, a one way system with red and green lights for the toilets and even hand sanitizer on every table. The food was amazing, and it was so good to get out. I do love eating outdoors though. Your dinners sound wonderful!
Please join us at #149 for Friendship Friday where we are bidding a teary farewell to Sweet Tsunami.
We said our goodbyes a little while ago and the heartache is huge.
My heart goes out to you Ramona. I am so very sorry about Tsunami, that is such sad news. Thinking of you and sending sympathy, prayers and love to you all. It is so hard to lose our furry friends, they are such a part of our lives! I still miss our cats Jake and Elwood who we said goodbye to 13 years ago. They had health issues similar to your lovely Tsunami. It truly is heartbreaking. Take care xo
