We are definitely dreaming of summer here in the UK! After what seems like an awful lot of rain and quite cool weather, we are finally seeing some sunshine. Welcome to the Hearth and Soul Link Party!
The Hearth and Soul Link Party welcomes family friendly blog posts about anything to feed the soul. Things that feed the soul may include (but are not limited to) recipes, decorating, crafts, family, home, DIY, organization, travel, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
What’s Been Happening?
It’s the season of long weekends. I’m sorry, last weekend I forgot to say Happy Victoria Day Weekend to all my fellow Canadians! I hope everyone who was celebrating had a great time. I’m wishing everyone in the US a good Memorial Day Weekend and a fabulous Spring Bank Holiday to all the folks here in the UK.
I know Memorial Day signals the start of summer in the US but as I mentioned, we are still dreaming of summer here in the UK! I’m really excited for long days in the garden and summer afternoon teas. Speaking of which, there are still places left on my Summer Afternoon Tea Workshop on June 12th.
I will share ideas for summer afternoon teas and discuss some easy recipes you can use. We will then have a bake along when I will show you how to make my Grandma Ruby’s Easy Orange and Raisin Scones and Snow Bars, a vintage recipe for dainty meringue-topped squares that are perfect for afternoon tea. Find out more and book a place here.
Has anyone else found themselves feeling a bit less than inspired in the kitchen?

Just in time for summer entertaining, I’m sharing lots of easy recipes, starting with one of my favourites.
Everyone always used to ask my Mom to bring her Old Fashioned Coleslaw Recipe to family gatherings, picnics and potlucks. It’s still my favourite coleslaw recipe. And for dessert….
Gooseberry Fool is a classic British recipe that is easy to make and always popular. I love to serve it in pretty crystal glasses or vintage teacups. In the blog I also share more about this lesser known fruit and delicious ways to use it.
Thank you all for sharing your lovely, inspiring content!

I like this space between very cold and very hot. I’m also enjoying more light this time of year. I’ll have to look at the falling in love with cooking post. I enjoy eating but I’m not always inspired to cook.

The longer, lighter days are really lifting my spirits, Barbara. I am definitely a creature of light! Thank you for visiting and sharing.

It’s a cold and dreary day here, as it was yesterday. So many Memorial Day weekends have been like this over the years that we never have big expectations for this weekend. 😉 But soon enough, we’ll be complaining about summer heat, right? LOL
I enjoy cooking and even I have gotten tired of cooking day in and day out. In hindsight, I wish that I’d kept a journal of all we’ve eaten in the last year+. We tried some new recipes/meals and relied on all favorites but banished some for a good while because we got tired of them. So your post on falling in love with cooking again is timely! Love your vintage tea cups. Good luck on your next tea event!
This week I’m linking up my Banana Maple-Nut Muffins (which was my first gfe post ever!) and my three-ingredient Pulled Pork recipe, a slow cooker solution that never disappoints.
Have a wonderful week, April!

The weather can definitely be capricious in May, Shirley. We had a couple cool days over our Bank Holiday weekend, but yesterday was really warm and sunny.
I am so glad I am not the only one who felt a bit jaded about cooking from time to time. Actually, it would have been a wonderful idea to have kept a food diary. I wish I had thought of that too. Thank you for the good wishes. There are a few people booked on already and I’m getting excited!
I will look forward to seeing your first post! Both the recipes sound delicious.
Have a wonderful week, Shirley!

All your recipes sound lovely, Miz Helen, especially the Strawberry Freezer Pie! I have been working so hard on the afternoon tea recipes that I haven’t made a pie in ages. I need to fix that! The weather has been crazy here. One day of high 20’s and the next 3 degrees. We planted our garden yesterday and will have to cover everything most every night this week.
Thank you so much for hosting, April. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Oh my goodness, Cindy, that really is crazy weather. My posted photographs on FB of snow in Keswick, Ontario the other day! I really hope that your garden gets off to a good start, despite the weather. Take care and have a lovely week (with hopefully a lot less capricious weather!).
