I love to mark the changing seasons in my home, lightening the soft furnishings in the spring and making things cozier in the autumn. As autumn arrives, I put up an autumn wreath and use throws and pillows to make sofas, beds and chairs even more inviting.
I also update mantles and sideboards to bring a bit of the outdoors in.
Sadly, people don’t decorate for fall as much in England as they do in North America. In fact my autumn wreaths always elicit concerned comments that I might be starting the Christmas season ‘far too early’ – and no amount of protesting that it’s an ‘autumn wreath’ can convince visitors otherwise. In England wreath = Christmas or funeral. There’s no in between. Except at my house. However I do have to restrain myself to avoid upsetting people.
Although I can’t actually do it, I love the idea of decorating my porch for fall like Barb at Second Chance to Dream.
