Welcome to the Hearth & Soul Link Party! Halloween is fast approaching so this week the features are chosen to give you a little inspiration. It’s Canadian Thanksgiving Sunday and Monday, so I’m publishing a bit early to allow me time to celebrate our Canadian Thanksgiving in England with family and friends.
At the Hearth and Soul Link Party, you can share blog posts old and new, about anything that feeds the soul. This includes – but is not limited to – family, home, recipes, decorating, crafts, DIY, travel, organisation, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
Last Week on the Blog
I’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes, getting ready for the months ahead. There’s a big photo shoot in the works, as well as lots of delicious home cooking, travel and style to share. I’m also working on improving my newsletters. I’ve been a bit sporadic with my updates lately… Plus, I’ve got a blogiversary coming up!
I’m especially excited to share this brand new recipe with you.
Based on a vintage family recipe that is still one of the most popular posts on the blog, my Gluten Free Old Fashioned Spice Cake recipe has a warming, mellow flavour the whole family will love. Delicious any time of year, it really comes into its own for autumn entertaining, and makes an easy gluten free dessert for Halloween and Thanksgiving.
If you haven’t tried my Warm Wild Rice Salad with Sausages and Apples yet, you are missing out! It’s an easy weeknight supper that’s also perfect for entertaining. There are gluten free and vegetarian options for this warming fall recipe as well.

Hi April
I love good gluten-free recipes as one of my grandsons is glute sensitive. He will love this cake’s delicious icing too! Thanks for hosting –shared on Twitter!

Thank you so much for featuring my Halloween Trick Or Treat Bucket!
It’s a pleasure! I hope your week is off to a good start!
Thank you for hosting! This is what I featured the week of 10-7 to 10-11 on my blog. On Tuesday morning was a Mushroom Soup Marsala. Wednesday I posted a Rich and Creamy Lobster Bisque. Wrapping up this week of soup I highlighted a Bourbon Sweet Potato Bisque with Walnuts. Enjoy!
Have a great week!
Hi April–I’m finally back to sharing here. Yay! First, happy Canadian Thanksgiving to you, April! I’m always envious of those who get to celebrate at this quieter time of year BEFORE the one-month countdown to Christmas. 😉
I’ve linked up my updated gluten-free Pumpkin Pie recipe roundup as National Pumpkin Pie Day was Saturday and everyone is starting to think of Thanksgiving in the U.S. And because we haven’t had Halloween yet, I’ve linked up my Creepy Crawly “Worm” Soup that is a great recipe for all those who enjoy zoodles to make as it uses the zoodle “cores” that look way too much like worms and that usually get discarded. So waste not, want not and delightfully creep out the family a bit. LOL
Have a good week!
Shirley

We celebrated thanksgiving with our Canadian friends!
Here in the northeast U.S., an October celebration feels much more seasonally appropriate somehow.
I’m so glad you were able to celebrate, Michele! I agree, with all the beautiful fall colours in the northeastern US, it is the perfect time to celebrate. Having said that, I’m also looking forward to US Thanksgiving, which we celebrate with our American friend and her family in their home. They also joined us for our Canadian Thanksgiving dinner last night!
Thank you for hosting once again, April! I’ve brought how I decorate my outdoor window boxes with a foundation that carries through the holiday seasons to the party this week with #87. I hope your week is a beautiful one!
