Happy New Year! Welcome to the January 2023 Edition of The Hearth and Soul Link Party, I hope you had a happy, relaxed and restorative holiday season and are feeling excited for the year to come. Hearth and Soul is a great place for inspiration to help you make the most of 2023.
The Hearth and Soul Link Party welcomes family-friendly blog posts about anything that feeds the soul. Things that feed the soul may include (but are not limited to) recipes, decorating, crafts, family, home, DIY, organization, travel, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
The Latest – January 2023 Edition
I had a wonderful Christmas Day with my family. It was incredible to be together on the big day for the first time in three years! My son and I really enjoyed cooking Christmas dinner together. He has become such a good cook, we now take turns being the sous chef!
I also shared a little glimpse into our day on Instagram if you would like to have a look.
New On The Blog
My family and I visited The Bath Christmas Market in early January and had a lovely day out in one of my favourite UK cities. Click on the link above to join us for a virtual visit.
Raspberry Snow Bars were a big part of family celebration when I was growing up. They are a real all-rounder, perfect for just about any occasion – especially afternoon tea.
It’s a bit late for the January 2023 edition, but if you ever wondered about Sugar Plums, I shared a video about exactly what they are.
I love the fresh start the new year brings! There are lots of things I like to do to help get my dreams and plans in order for the year. I’m sharing five of them in my latest blog post to help you Get Ready For The New Year.
If you are thinking of participating in Veganuary, I have lots of delicious vegan recipes for you to try. I must admit, I would struggle to eat an entirely vegan diet, but I do love meat-free dishes.
The Hearth and Soul Community
Many of you have joined the Hearth and Soul Community on Facebook and I am really enjoying connecting with you there. If you haven’t already, please take this opportunity to join nearly 50 other talented and engaged community members in celebrating everything that feeds the soul – even when the link party isn’t open! It’s a great way to get to know your fellow contributors better and another way to highlight your content. Our The Hearth and Soul Link Party page is still active as well.
The January 2023 Edition – Featured Posts
Thank you all for visiting and sharing your wonderful content! Here are just a few of the posts that caught my eye this month for the January 2023 edition.
If you like to send handwritten notes as much as I do, you will love this idea from Regina of Saved From Salvage. She shared step by step directions on How to Make Watercolour Notecards. I followed Regina’s directions (no painting required) and I’m delighted with the results.
As most of you know, I love vintage recipes. I was inspired by how Leslie of My Gluten Free Cucina made her mother-in-law’s Oatmeal Raisin Cookie recipe into delicious Gluten Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. They would make a lovely treat with some hot chocolate after a winter’s walk.
I love having flowers and greenery in my house, but did you know that houseplants can also be beneficial to your health and wellbeing? Betty of Anointed Today tells us more in her post Do You Know The Benefits of Houseplants?
Jean of Delightful Repast has been making some beautiful cupcakes – Velvety Vanilla Cupcakes with Strawberry Buttercream. There’s a delicious recipe for Small Batch Strawberry Jam to make the buttercream as well. The jam is made with frozen strawberries, a real boon this time of year!

I love sharing kitchen duties with my not so little baker and I can already see the day he’ll far surpass my skills! He definitely has more patience when it comes to things like pastries and croissants.

It really is such a pleasure to get to cook with our children at any age! My son has more patience than I do as well.

Hi April–Happy New Year! I linked up last week but had to step away before I left a comment.
I always love your features as well as your highlights. One day I hope to visit the European Christmas markets! I’ve seen the watercolour app and always loved the results but using the images for notecards is such a lovely idea. I’m still a huge fan of handwritten notes although I know that fewer and fewer folks use them because of all the other ways to instantly connect.
Have a good week!
Shirley

Hi Shirley – Happy New Year to you too! Thank you for coming back for another visit 🙂 I am a huge fan of handwritten notes as well. I love getting cards and letters in the post, but it happens less and less often these days.
Have a wonderful week!
April
