Here in England we celebrated Mothers Day back in March, but with my Canadian heritage, I’m very aware that Mother’s Day is coming up soon in North America. So this week I’m featuring Mothers Day Ideas here at The Hearth and Soul Link Party. Welcome!
At Hearth and Soul, blog posts old and new, about anything that feeds the soul, are welcome. This includes – but is not limited to – family, home, recipes, decorating, crafts, DIY, travel, organisation, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
I know that Mother’s Day can be a sad occasion for many women, and is often bittersweet for many of us, but I wanted to celebrate the joyful side of this occasion by sharing these features today.
How are things in your corner of the world? We have another Bank Holiday Monday here today, and our son has come for a short visit in between work commitments. So I’m publishing a little bit early so I can spend some time with my family.
It was a busy week on the blog last week.
What’s Been Happening On The Blog
Last week on the blog I was thinking a lot about British traditions and how there’s a lot of confusion surrounding the British tradition of afternoon tea.
There’s afternoon tea, Devon cream tea, Cornwall cream tea, high tea, and just plain tea… so what is a British Afternoon Tea really?
And if you are looking for a pretty, seasonal recipe perfect for Mother’s Day or afternoon tea, I’ve got just the thing!
My Rhubarb and Ginger Drizzle Cake is soaked with a sweet tart pink syrup and drizzled with pink glaze. Delicious on its own, I also like to serve it with a spoonful of rhubarb compote and a scoop of strawberry ice cream.

It’s my pleasure, Linda 🙂 x
April, thank you so much for hosting! I just pinned your yummy Rhubarb and Ginger Drizzle cake. It looks amazing. Have a lovely week!
Thank you so much for visiting and for pinning, Emily!
I’m in the USA and my mum is in the UK. I have to be extra-wary of not missing mother’s day in March, as I don’t see reminders in the shops here until much later.
And thank you for mentioning it’s a difficult day for many.
I used to have a similar issue, Pauline, although it was a bit easier as it was in reverse. So I could buy my Mother’s Day card really early – but I had to be careful to remember to send it in May. In the end, Mom used to get a Mother’s Day card on both Mothering Sunday and Mother’s Day, but I’d usually send flowers in May as well!
April thank you so much for the feature. I hope your week is off to a great start! I know mine is!
My pleasure, Mary! And thank you, yes, my week is definitely off to a great start 🙂
This week I am sharing Very Berry Pancakes, a BLT Salad with Chicken Strips and finally a delicious recipe for Raspberry Chicken. Thanks for hosting. Have a lovely evening!
All your recipes sound lovely, Marilyn! Thank you so much for sharing them 🙂
Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week. Happy Mother’s Day.
I hope you have a wonderful week as well, Patrick, and thank you so much!
Hi April! It is wonderful to have children come to visit, even when it isn’t Mother’s Day! Have am awesome visit with your son.
It really is, Miz Helen! I always enjoy our visits with our son, and his girlfriend when she is able to join him 🙂
Thank you for hosting, and have a great week!
It’s a pleasure, Cherryl! I hope your week is lovely too!
Well, I’ve not been taking time to join my regular link parties…. but here I am. I enjoy your party– and I love that framed butterfly card, too!
I have a future “tea” post coming up sometime…. too late for Mother’s Day this time, but I’ve been seeing tea all over and now here again! : )
Thank you so much for the compliment! I’m so glad you enjoy Hearth and Soul 🙂 I’ll look forward to your tea post too. I can never get enough of afternoon tea 🙂
April, your rhubarb and ginger drizzle cake looks like something I need a slice of TODAY! I brought my Clotted Cream Tutorial to the party. If my mother were alive, I would treat her to afternoon tea, something she loved. And she’d be thrilled that I make my own clotted cream!
Thank you so much, Jean! Thank you for bringing your clotted cream tutorial to the party. I had linked to a previous post on clotted cream on your site in my post entitled What Is Afternoon Tea Really, but I’ve updated the link to this one. It’s in the recipe section at the bottom of the post. Thank you so much for sharing!
