Some of My Favourite Posts of 2013

My Favourite Posts of 2013 2013 has been a year of tremendous change for us as a family and for me personally. Our son took his first steps out into the world as he went to Canada to study and my husband and I learned about what it’s like to have an empty nest. We shared our home and our lives with some amazing people.ย I kept house, decluttered, decorated, entertained (a lot!), wrote many of my favourite posts and developed recipes.

I visited Canada six times, California twice and Ireland three times. I went to Germany and to Israel, both for the first time.

I was thrilled to be asked to be Godmother to a dear friend’s daughters.

I learned that how long you have the privilege of knowing someone doesn’t begin to affect how deeply they can influence you.

For the first time, instead of worrying about the number in my age, I find myself being incredibly grateful for every single year of it.

I found out that redefining and reinventing myself can be fun.

I learned that home really is where the heart is – and that its location really isn’t ever just one place.

And you, my readers, were with me, every step of the way. My life is infinitely richer for your presence. Thank you for sharing the journey with me.

Here are some of my favourite posts from last year.

Instagram post 2190975069077257663_179821897 ๐ŸŽ„ Have you put up your Christmas decorations yet? ๐ŸŽ„I love hearing about peopleโ€™s traditions around decorating. So many wait until after a birthday or have a special date to start. Iโ€™d love to know what happens at your house!
๐ŸŽ„
My Christmas tree has been up since November 1, but only because I had a photo shoot ini early November. It was too much work to take it down again, and frankly it has brightened the dark mornings. ๐ŸŽ„
The rest of the house took shape last week before our first Christmas party. Iโ€™m loving how this swag of greenery, pinecones, feathers and flowers made by my favourite florist @greenparlour looks on my Grandmotherโ€™s and my Momโ€™s sideboard in the kitchen. I think that both these lovely late ladies would approve! .

We hosted our annual Christmas cocktail party for 60 friends on Friday, and attended a black tie dinner at beautiful Beaulieu Palace House @national_motor_museum where this photo was taken on Saturday. The decorations at Palace House were stunning, full of holiday sparkle. I'll be sharing more here and on the blog soon!We also celebrated Thanksgiving at our lovely friends' house on Sunday with delicious food and great company.
I hope you are getting into the holiday spirit too! ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒŸ
