Alea of Premeditated Leftovers and I want to welcome you to the fourth edition of our weekend blog hop, The Gallery of Favorites.

The Gallery of Favorites is a place for you to feature favorite posts from your own blog. Although Alea and I both spend a lot of our time writing about food, we do have many other interests and we know our readers do as well. The Gallery of Favorites is a place for all bloggers to share their ideas, interests and passions.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated last week. I was touched by many and I enjoyed reading them all. Alea and I wanted to highlight 50 Before 50 by Lisa of Happy in Dole Valley. It touched us both, but for different reasons.

California 2010 131

Now Lisa’s youngest child is 11, she has more time to pursue the things she always wanted to do, and so made a list of 50 things she wanted to do before she was 50 years old. I love lists. In fact, I am so drawn to them that a few months ago I purchased a book called My Future Listography – All I Hope to Do in Lists. However, although the book is full of blank pages with helpful titles like ‘ List the Museums You Want to Visit’ and ‘The Things You Aspire to Be Fearless At’, I have yet to write a single thing in it.

I wonder if that might be because I, like many women, rarely prioritise myself. I think a lot about my family’s goals, but I don’t always think a lot about mine. I admire Lisa for taking the time to make a list of the things she would like to accomplish and for prioritising herself long enough to formulate a list of fifty things that are important to her. We all need to take a leaf out of Lisa’s book!

Of course it is important to nurture our families and to do everything we can to support and encourage those we love. We do, however, have to remember to treat ourselves as we treat others. I know that is a bit of a variation on the great commandment “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” but just as you must treat others as you wish to be treated, surely you have a responsibility to treat yourself just as kindly. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only women who doesn’t do that all the time. I can be pretty hard on myself. Maybe it’s time I stopped doing that. Maybe it’s time I took some time to make my list of 50 before 50. Maybe you’d like to join me?

What have you been writing about this week? Share your favorite post!

The Gallery of Favorites will remain open for entries until Monday.

Include a link to your favorite post, rather than to your blog.

Include a link to one of the hosts in your post, either through text or with a button.

We hope that you will take the time to visit some of the other entries in our Gallery of Favorites. It is a great way to discover new writers, or a new side to some of your favorite bloggers.
