The winds of change are definitely blowing here in the UK and in many places around the world as things slowly begin to open up again. Welcome to the Hearth and Soul Link Party.
The Hearth and Soul Link Party welcomes family friendly blog posts about anything to feed the soul. Things that feed the soul may include (but are not limited to) recipes, decorating, crafts, family, home, DIY, organization, travel, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
The UK government has confirmed that England’s lockdown rules will end on 19th July. I am excited about moving forward but I also have my concerns. We are being urged to continue to wear masks in public places and my family and I plan to do this. This is not just to protect ourselves, but also to protect those more vulnerable than we are. I’m just praying everyone is careful, in which case, with the help of our good vaccination record, we should be fine.
What’s Been Happening
I’m getting lots of new content ready for the late summer and autumn. This week I had a Brand Shoot with the lovely Terry Joshi Photography, with support from the wonderful Sarah van Dort and Alison Oswald, for styling and makeup respectively. A huge vote of thanks goes out to my husband, who helped when he could around his work schedule, as well as our son, who also provided behind the scenes help and support. We all had a lot of fun and I’m so excited to share the photographs and new content over the coming months.
My family and I are enjoying a staycation this weekend in my second favourite English city – Cambridge.
The weather is lovely and we are doing lots of exploring. My son and his partner are former Cambridge residents, so we have excellent tour guides.
The photograph above is the famous Mathematical Bridge, originally called The Wooden Bridge or Queens’ Bridge. It connects one side of Queens’ College, Cambridge to the other, across the River Cam. There are lots of legends around this bridge, including one that it was built by Sir Isaac Newton. However, that would have been pretty challenging, as Newton died 22 years before the bridge was originally built in 1749!
I’ll be sharing more of our adventures on Instagram over the weekend, as well as on the blog in the weeks to come.
On The Blog
I’m thinking a lot about entertaining again but on a much smaller scale and in a much more laid back way than I used to. It is such a pleasure to be able to see friends and family again!
My Red Pepper Crostini Topping is a versatile recipe that makes way more than just Red Pepper Crostini. It’s perfect for starters, snacks and relaxed entertaining – and you can make it ahead as well.
It’s a bit hot for baking, but I couldn’t resist the gorgeous fresh cherries we have been seeing at our local farm shop.
This cherry studded loaf is perfect for any occasion! My Easy Cherry Loaf Cake recipe is moist and delicious, a real family favourite. We enjoy it for afternoon tea or dressed up with a scoop of ice cream for dessert.
Thank you for sharing your inspiring content!

We have been out of lock down since the end of May. It has taken some getting used to. I still feel funny without my mask when I’m shopping. I do have to wear a mask at work as I work with children.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It always helps me to learn of other people’s experience and perceptions of situations like this. It’s comforting to realise we all have concerns. Take care and have a lovely week.
