Keeping on top of beauty trends is a great way to keep your look up to date. Of course, you don’t want to adopt every seasonal trend you see – it’s about picking and choosing the top beauty trends that work for you.
A healthy, natural look was apparent on many models on the fall/winter catwalks this year. Eyes are big and bold contrasted with pale lips. Great skin, softly glowing cheeks and nude lips were everywhere. This look is easy to achieve and suits just about everyone.
My Pick of Fall 2014’s Top Beauty Trends
Skincare is key
Fresh, healthy skin is in. To achieve this try to get plenty of sleep if you can, drink lots of water and be sure to cleanse and moisturize your face twice daily. Always remove your makeup, cleanse and moisturise before going to sleep.
Brown mascara can make eyes pop
One of the looks for lashes this fall is very dark and unnaturally long. This is hard to carry off unless you are very young. I prefer the more natural trends for this season’s eyelashes. A Sephora makeup artist turned me on to the gorgeous effect brown mascara can create, particularly for blue and green eyes. Or do as Tom Pecheux of Estée Lauder recommends and use black mascara on top lashes and brown on lower lashes. This gives a lovely wide-eyed look without giving up the drama black mascara can create.
Eyes are in the spotlight this season so don’t forget eyeliner
Although it can be challenging to apply, a thin line of eyeliner along your upper lashes can really enhance your look. I love Bobbi Brown’s Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner pencils. To stay bang on trend don’t line the lower eye this season.
A gentle flush of blusher is all you need this season
A pale flush of colour is in for Fall 2014. There are plenty of gorgeous new pale shades available to give your skin a healthy glow as the leaves begin to fall. I also love Dior’s classic Rosy Glow in 001 Petal. It goes on much lighter than it appears in the compact and gives a lovely flush to nearly every skin tone.
Smile when you apply your blusher and apply the colour to the apples of your cheeks, moving the brush gently upwards back toward the hairline, gradually fading the colour as you go.
Lips are pale or nude
If you are going with the trend for nude lips, choose a colour no more than one shade lighter than your lips to avoid an artificial look. The biggest look for fall is a shade of lipstick that is very near or just slightly darker than your actual lip colour. This gives a natural but enhanced look.
