Welcome to the Hearth and Soul Link Party. How are things in your corner of the world? We have had an interesting transition from summer to fall here in the UK, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to about 26°C (that’s about 53°F to 75°F), and everything in between. However, things are now looking distinctly more autumnal, despite the variations in the temperature.
The Hearth and Soul Link Party welcomes family friendly blog posts about anything to feed the soul. Things that feed the soul may include (but are not limited to) recipes, decorating, crafts, family, home, DIY, organization, travel, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
I took this photograph on a recent walk with my husband in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, about a half hour from where we live. Although the Thames is famous for being the river that runs through London, it actually flows through much of southern England. The longest river in England (215 miles/346 km), the Thames is also the second longest river in the United Kingdom. You can see the transition from summer to fall just beginning as the leaves start to turn on some of the trees.
What Has Been Happening as we Transition from Summer to Fall?
It was a busy week, with my first face to face networking meeting in over 18 months. I’ve also been working on my vintage recipes cookbook manuscript, as well as more recipes and articles for the blog.
I’m also focusing on Pinterest, as I am getting very near to 10,000 followers. Do you follow me on Pinterest? If you do, thank you! If not, I would love your support as I work to achieve my goal of 10,000 followers before the end of the year.
My husband Guy and I also had a lovely overnight stay in London later in the week.
On the blog, I featured one of my most popular afternoon tea recipes, perfect for the transition from summer to fall.
Moist and tender, with distinctly almond flavour, these delicious, easy to make Raspberry Bakewell Tart Squares are an easy twist on a traditional Bakewell Tart.
Save The Date
As we transition from summer to fall and on to winter, I will be offering one more online baking class this year, on Saturday 13th November. Don’t miss all the insider hints and tips to help you make my family’s Traditional British Christmas Cake. There’s a gluten free version too! More details will be announced in my newsletter soon.

Interesting about the Thames! You’re right, I had always associated it with London, but never thought about it branching out into the countryside.

I never realised about the Thames until I lived here in England either, Barbara. I’m glad it has cooled down a bit for you too. Have a lovely week!

April, thanks so much for including my fall transition tablescape with your other creative features! Such a lovely surprise! We headed to New Mexico on the 19th and just returned, having had a wonderful, (mostly) unplugged vacation. I recommend it highly! The pretty shot of the Thames reminds me of the lovely landscapes we found in southern England in 2014. I can’t wait to return!
April Harris says
It’s a pleasure, Sandra 🙂 I’m so glad you had a lovely vacation. I have always wanted to visit New Mexico. I hope you are able to return to England soon!
