We are welcoming 2021 with open arms at the Hearth and Soul Link Party. Wishing you a happy, healthy New Year!
The Hearth and Soul Link Party welcomes blog posts about anything that feeds the soul. Things that feed the soul may include (but are not limited to) recipes, decorating, crafts, family, home, DIY, organization, travel, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
NB. Please only share blog posts. I’m sorry, but links to Facebook posts etc will be deleted.
What’s Been Happening?
How did your New Year celebrations go? We had a quiet New Year’s Eve. Most of the UK is in Tier 4 Covid 19 restrictions so welcoming 2021 meant fun virtual get togethers online with family and friends. We also enjoyed some snacks and drank some champagne. We missed being with our family in real life, but we did have a lovely time.
I sent out a subscriber newsletter to welcome the New Year. If you are not a subscriber already, here’s a link to check it out. If you like what you see, please do subscribe! I’d really appreciate your support.
Welcoming 2021
I’ve been welcoming 2021 by deciding on my New Year Aspirations and my word for the year. I prefer setting aspirations to making resolutions. It’s a gentler, more supportive practice and it’s really effective too.
My word for this year is Focus. I’ve got some big goals and I need to make sure that I keep my sights firmly fixed on their implementation to make them happen.
2021 Goals
I also like to make a list of 21 for 2021, as recommended by bestselling author Gretchen Rubin of the Happier Podcast. Number 10 on my list is to keep our menus on 2 days each week completely vegetarian.
I’ve always enjoyed vegetarian meals and consider myself to be an Occasional Vegetarian. Committing to two meat free days a week is just another step in that journey. I feel it is an important one for our health and the health of the planet as well.
Care to join me? Here’s a link to some menus and recipes to get you started.

Our New Year’s Eve was pretty quiet, too. Dinner with close family and playing cards but we had a 10pm curfew so they had to head home early. My husband and I barely made it to midnight. But it was fun all the same.
April Harris says
I’m glad you had a good time, Donna. We made it to midnight as well – just! Happy New Year!
Helen Reynolds says
Happy New Year April! Thank you so much for featuring our journal prompts. I love your thoughts about aspirations. One of mine is to be better about journaling. Also, continuing to simplify our diet with more fresh vegetables, too!
April Harris says
Thank you, Helen! It’s a pleasure! And what great aspirations!
Pamela Graham says
After a very quiet but delicious dinner and champagne, we headed up the stairs at a quarter to midnight with a nightcap. After a few celebratory fireworks on the TV we were ready to snuggle down. Could be the way of things to come, must be getting old!
Happy New Year to you and yours

Happy New Year! We had a quiet New Year’s Eve, too. I don’t make resolutions, either, but I like to set goals and make plans. I am not much of a journaler, but I like those prompts. And that coffee cake sounds scrumptious!

Happy New Year April! Ours was quiet, as we watched the ball drop on TV. The holidays just don’t seem real this year.

I like your word aspirations. I call them intentions. That way they aren’t a pass/fail.
April Harris says
I like intentions too, Lauren! I think it’s really important to support ourselves so that we aren’t in a pass/fail situation, especially this year 🙂

We always celebrate a quiet night at home for NYE and have yet to make it up to midnight since long before our boys were born. We typically just eat a nice meal, watch a movie, and enjoy the quiet and solitude.
April Harris says
That sounds like a lovely cozy way to spend a New Year’s Eve, Joanne. Happy New Year to you and your family!
Laurie Cover says
I congratulate you and wish you well on your occasional vegetarian endeavor! Sometimes we do better at progress when we don’t jump in with both feet, but do it as we can make it work for our own situation. I think that easing into a new way of eating can get you used to the flavors and new options without you feeling too deprived.
Blessings on your journey, and Happy New Year!
Laurie
