It’s time for welcoming the Twenties! I’m so excited for this new decade! Hello and welcome to the Hearth and Soul Link Party. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and/or Hanukkah and that you are enjoying the holiday season.
At the Hearth and Soul Link Party, you can share blog posts old and new, about anything that feeds the soul. This includes – but is not limited to – family, home, recipes, decorating, crafts, DIY, travel, organisation, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
We had a wonderful Christmas with family and are looking forward to the New Year celebrations. We are going to a Roaring Twenties Black Tie Dinner. I’m very excited about it. Later in the week, we have a lovely trip to London planned to celebrate our son and his partner’s birthdays in early January. They were born just a day apart. This year my son will be the same age I was the year he was born – exactly half my age now.
What’s Happening?
I’m feeling very encouraged for the New Year after running (okay, jog/walking!!) my first 5 kilometre Park Run.
From right to left, my husband Guy, my son’s partner, Hannah, Hannah’s sister Lucie, and I after completing Park Run in Littleport. Big thanks to Hannah for suggesting we do the run, and to Lucie for encouraging me and sticking with me all the way round the course, even though I definitely slowed her down. I was thrilled with my time of 35 minutes 36 seconds, third in my age group. If you have a Park Run or something similar near you, I encourage you to give it a try. You can walk, jog or run, whatever you like!
On the blog I’ve been sharing lots of great recipes for this time of year.
These Delicious Leftovers Recipes are perfect for ham, turkey or chicken leftovers all year round. One of them even uses up meat, veggies and stuffing (and of course you can make it vegetarian by just using vegetables and stuffing!).
If you have fresh cranberries left over, or some in the freezer, I have two sweet recipes for you –
My Cranberry Orange and Ginger Loaf makes a lovely dessert for New Year’s Day. Or try this decadent dessert with two really healthy ingredients!
My Chocolate and Cranberry Quick Bread with Cinnamon Glaze has a decadent, rich, full on chocolate flavour, sweet, sharp tangy cranberries and a bit of spice too!
Looking for an easy to make recipe for New Year’s Eve?
My Spicy Crab Topped Cod Fillets are perfect for New Year’s Eve, whether it’s dinner for two or a dinner party for a few more! There’s a gluten free option too.
Thank you to everyone who visited and shared last week!

April, congratulations on placing in the park run! I would definitely walk it myself. Yesterday Mr D and I walked the local botanical gardens, took a bit over an hour, and it was invigorating. Thank you for hosting! That champagne cocktail looks like something I need to make very soon.
