It’s a whole new decade – a real fresh start for us all, and I’m making the most of it! Welcome to the Hearth and Soul Link Party. I hope you had a wonderful New Year celebration and are looking forward to the year to come.
At the Hearth and Soul Link Party, you can share blog posts old and new, about anything that feeds the soul. This includes – but is not limited to – family, home, recipes, decorating, crafts, DIY, travel, organisation, book reviews, the arts and self improvement.
My husband and I celebrated the New Year with friends at our club.
There was a ‘Roaring Twenties’ Black Tie Ball at Phyllis Court Club in Henley to celebrate a whole new decade. It was such fun.
We were entertained by three of The Gatsby Girls, all very talented dancers. They even attempted to teach us all the Charleston. I learned to Charleston in dance classes as a child, but I found it much more challenging after a couple of glasses of champagne, particularly as I was wearing a long dress!
We also celebrated our son and his parter’s birthdays (they are a day apart) a few days after New Year. We stayed at The Ritz London and had a really lovely time.

Whether you are making healthier choices as part of a whole new decade or you just enjoy really delicious pasta, you are sure to love this!
Made with lots of gorgeous veggies in a rich tomato sauce, my Pasta alla Norma is a delicious, wholesome twist on the traditional Sicilian pasta dish. The recipe is vegetarian with gluten free and vegan options too!

Rachelle of My Hubbard Home encourages us to look at January in a different way – and get outside and enjoy it – in her January Musings, inspired by the gift of The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady.
Hearth and Soul community member Chas faced a number of challenges in 2019, and her practice of gratitude inspires me. Chas’ DIY Reusable Grateful Board could encourage you in your gratitude practice as well.
Steamed puddings are hugely popular here in the UK, particularly this time of year. Jean of Delightful Repast has developed a method for making them in the Instant Pot, and her Steamed Persimmon Pudding sounds wonderful. I love that it can be made ahead as well. It’s perfect for relaxed entertaining.
What will you bring to the party this week?

Happy 2020 to you! I used to dread January as the deepest, coldest part of winter and probably a post-celebration let-down. But now I really enjoy it as a time of rest and getting in gear for the new year.
Happy 2020, Barbara! I enjoy January too. It’s nice to have a month to reset and get into gear 🙂 Have a lovely week!

Oh my goodness, Nancy, what a surprise! I’m sad you are stepping down from blogging, but I totally understand. Please do stay in touch. Although we’ve never met in real life, I feel like we’ve gotten to know each other a little over the years. I would love it if you would still follow my blog, and I know I will continue to refer back to yours. I hope you will leave it up as there is so much wonderful content. Happy New Year, April! The party you attended was so glamorous and fun! You looked beautiful! Thank you for your kind comments regarding my daughter. We were relieved her surgery went well and her recovery has been good. She hopes to return to work soon.
Thank you so much, Pat. We really did have fun! I’m so glad your daughter’s recovery is continuing to progress well. I know a few people who have had valve surgery, and after their recovery period, they all remarked how much better they felt than before they had the surgery. Wishing you and your family all the very best in 2020.
Thank you for hosting & Happy New Year, April! Your event looked spectacular as did you both! Have a wonderful week.

This week I’ve linked up my healthier version of the old school no-bake chocolate peanut butter oatmeal cookies and a guest recipe–flourless, nut-free brownies. Both are extremely satisfying to chocolate lovers!
