We had a lovely holiday season, including spending some time in Ely in Cambridgeshire to join our son, Alexander, his partner Hannah and her family for Christmas celebrations. The celebrations were held at their house. Alexander and I prepared both Christmas Eve and Christmas Dinner for nine people together with a bit of help from our friends. I enjoyed the opportunity to be sous chef for a change!
On New Year’s Eve we attended a Ball at our club Phyllis Court with our friends. The photo above is my husband and I just before we left. You can see a bit of our newly decorated living room in this photo – I’ll be sharing more photos of our completed renovations soon!
After New Year’s Day, we travelled to Beverley in Yorkshire. Alexander and Hannah have birthdays a day apart so we spent some time sightseeing and celebrating in this beautiful part of the world. Our tour included Hull, Harrogate, York and Leeds. We had two delicious lunches at Betty’s Café Tea Rooms, one at their branch in Harrogate and the other in York as well as a lovely dinner at The Beverley Arms, where we also stayed.

I’m sharing idea and inspiration to help you make the most of 2024 in Get Ready for the New Year.
When it comes time to get ready for the new year, there often seems to be an expectation that we should be ready to raise a toast at midnight on December 31st with a clear vision of where we are headed but there is actually no rush at all! In fact, you can use these ideas any time you want to make a fresh start.
Are you putting a trip to Paris on your vision board? Whether you are planning a trip or you just fancy a virtual visit, check out Visiting Paris – Tips for Your City Break for advice for a weekend on hotels, restaurants, places to see and things to do. This beautiful, historic city also makes a great starting point if you are planning to tour other areas of France and Europe.
One of the most popular recipes on the blog at the moment is this delicious One Pan Salmon and Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables. I have been getting bags of beautiful peppers at Costco recently so this recipe has been popular in my kitchen too!
The recipe is naturally gluten-free, provided the spice mixture you use is gluten-free. If you are participating in Veganuary or want to make this recipe vegetarian, simply leave out the salmon and bump up the quantities of veggies and chick peas. It is still absolutely scrumptious. You can serve it on its own or with some plain, basmati or wild rice.
