The June Edition
There is a great deal of excitement and celebration in the UK this weekend as we celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. The Queen, who is celebrating 70 years on the throne, is the longest reigning monarch in UK history. We have a two-day Bank Holiday long weekend, from Thursday 3rd June to Sunday 5th June. There’s so much going on locally and nationally – a huge party at Buckingham Palace, street parties and fêtes, services of Thanksgiving, the Trooping of the Colour and more. On Friday our friends hosted a street party which was lots of fun.
I was in London the week before last and if you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen London getting dressed up to celebrate our Queen in my stories. A lot of people have decorated their homes as well. It’s a very patriotic weekend!
As for me, I’m very grateful to The Queen to give me an extra long birthday weekend this year. I’ll be celebrating my birthday with my family on Sunday evening with dinner in the Dining Room at Cliveden.
What’s New
My husband and I travelled to Ireland early in the month. I’ve also been enjoying spring in England with visits to Grey’s Court and The Chelsea Flower Show.
While I was in London, I also visited Kensington Palace and the Life Through a Royal Lens exhibit as well as the wonderful Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature exhibit at The Victoria & Albert Museum. We had some lovely meals at a some of my favourite London restaurants.
June Edition – What’s Cooking In My Kitchen?
I’ve been making my easy versions of lots of classic British recipes – including Coronation Chicken, originally served at HM The Queen’s Coronation in 1953.
Coronation chicken makes lovely tea sandwiches too, perfect for a delicious Afternoon Tea.
Speaking of Afternoon Tea, I’ve got lots of Ideas and Recipes for a Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea – or any celebration tea for that matter!

Happy Birthday, April! I love that it’s all about celebrations for you and all around you right now. Street parties ARE fun!
I happened to catch a PBS show on the Queen’s Garden at Buckingham Palace this morning. It was really delightful. The staff has tucked in cameras just about everywhere so they’ve captured so much we don’t usually get to see–the honeybee waggle dance, which they use to tell the other bees where the best flowers are; the tawny owls and their prey; the horses’ significant but pungent contribution to the gardens (LOL); and so much more.
Off to read that highlighted post about packing as I am finally getting ready for a short trip. 🙂
Thanks so much! Keep celebrating as a single day for one’s birthday is never enough!
Shirley
Thank you so much, Shirley! I had a wonderful time. In fact, Guy and I are off until tomorrow so I’m definitely carrying on the celebrations 🙂
The documentary sounds wonderful. I have been in the garden at Buckingham Palace after tours, but have never toured the gardens themselves. I will have to see if I can find the documentary as seeing the footage from those little cameras would be priceless. We’ve got an after hours tour of the palace itself in October but I haven’t booked one of the gardens yet.
I hope you enjoy your trip. Have a wonderful time!
April
Happy Birthday! How nice that it coincides with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! I’ve watched a little of the coverage and a TV special program here about her reign. I’m looking forward to reading the posts about your travels. The Beatrix Potter exhibition especially sounds like a lot of fun.
Thank you so much, Barbara! I had a lovely time. I’m glad you enjoyed the coverage of the Platinum Jubilee. My favourite thing was a documentary including some of the Queen’s own family video footage from back in the 1920’s and onwards.
Thanks April for hosting. My shares this time are #18, 19, 20. Happy June and stay well.
Happy June, Nancy! Thank you so much for visiting and sharing 🙂
Thank you for hosting April, I’ve been following the Queen’s Jubilee from here in the US and loving it all! For June I’m sharing a new post, Beef Guazzetto or Italian Beef Stew, that I know everyone will love whether gluten free or not!
I’m so glad you have been enjoying the Platinum Jubilee too, Leslie. Your stew sounds delicious – I look forward to the recipe!
Happy June April! Your scones and travel photos look amazing! 🙂
Thank you so much, Ramona! Happy June!
Happy to connect in June!
Thank you for visiting and sharing, Michele!
Happy Birthday, April! You look so pretty in the photo in this post. So glad the Queen had a wonderful jubilee. My oldest grandson was on a school trip to London and heard the cannon salute and saw the Tower Bridge raise up–very exciting! He then traveled on to Paris and Rome–lucky boy!
Thank you so much, Pat! What a lovely compliment. That’s wonderful your grandson was in London – it must have been very exciting to be right in the centre of it all! And how lovely to go on to Paris and Rome. I was just saying to my husband the other day that it has been too long since we visited Paris! I hope your grandson thoroughly enjoys his travels. Thank you for visiting and sharing.
Happy birthday!
Thank you, Lauren! Have a lovely week!
Hi April,
Love your new blog look. It’s beautiful and loved the pretty pictures of YOU! You look great in Pink!! I came by last week and thought you might have decided to stop the linky party, but so glad you didn’t. As I always enjoy it and enjoy linking up as well. Also enjoy reading about your adventures.
Take care,
Blessings, Nellie
Hi Nellie,
Thank you so much! What lovely compliments. I’m so glad you enjoy my blog too 🙂
I’ve made Hearth and Soul a monthly party, as it was just too much to try to keep up with it when it was weekly 🙂 I hope you will continue to visit throughout the month – you are welcome to share up to 8 blog posts each month over the course of the month. The linky stays open until the 25th of the month or until 300 blog posts are linked up.
Take care, and thank you again!
Blessings,
April
Happy belated birthday, April! And thank you for featuring my DIY Spring Vase from Pringles Can!
Happy Blessed Birthday and that is so cool that you got to travel to Ireland. Very nice. Thanks for hosting this wonderful party.
Thank you so much, Patrick! I hope you have a wonderful week.
You have highlighted so much of our wonderful Jubilee celebrations April, and how lovely that it was also your birthday. Thank you for the gentle reminder that I must make an effort to get to the Beatrix Potter exhibition, and let’s hope that afternoon teas in the garden might be on the agenda a little more as the weather improves.
Thank you, Pamela! I highly recommend the Beatrix Potter exhibition. It runs until September, so there’s still time yet. It does look like the weather is improving, so it’s looking hopeful for lots of lovely summer afternoon teas. Thank you for visiting and sharing.
Thanks for hosting, April. I really do love the new look of your site. It has to be one of the most appealing, classy, easy-to-navigate sites out there!
Thank you so much for the lovely compliments on the site, Donna! That is very kind of you. I am so pleased you like it. Thank you for being a part of Hearth and Soul and for all your encouragement.
