The Hearth and Soul Hop February 9

The Hearth and Soul Hop
Welcome to the February 9th edition of The Hearth and Soul Hop, the blog hop for all things home and family – family and comfort food recipes, healthy, sustainable living posts, homemaking, gardening, kids, crafts and DIY. Encouraging and inspiring posts are very welcome too.

Despite the odd snow shower, we are beginning to see signs of spring here in southern England. Snowdrops have begun to bloom in some places and some of my bulbs have even started to come through. And best of all, it’s the season for Blood Oranges. Last week, I shared some of my favourite Blood Orange Recipes. Any one of them would make a delicious dessert for Valentine’s Day!

I think it is nice to include everyone in Valentine’s Day and not keep it solely as a celebration of romantic love. It’s a great excuse to treat friends and family to little gifts or home-baked treats and I like to keep a special eye out for friends and neighbours who may be lonely.  If you are planning a Valentine’s Day dinner, I do have some easy and delicious Valentine’s Day Menus and Recipes as well as tips for making the celebrations more relaxed and enjoyable. Also, don’t miss my tips on how to Keep the Romance of Valentine’s in Your Marriage All Year Long.

Thank you so much to everyone who visited and shared posts last week! Please continue to share the hop with your blogging friends to help us grow! Today I’m featuring three Valentine’s Day themed posts from last week’s hop.

Nutella Frangelico Love Cheesecake
Nutella Frangelico Love Cheesecake from Cydnee at Tampa Cake Girl

Valentine's Wreath by Lovely Livings
Lovely Valentine’s Wreaths from LuAnn at Lovely Livings

Valentines Cookies from Cooking on A Budget

Decorated Shortbread Cookies from Patty at Cooking on a Budget

  1. Thanks April for the party 🙂
We actually don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but we do have a similar holiday in the next few months and i LOVE it !!

  2. Thanks for the party, April !

  3. Found the link party on Twitter. Thanks for hosting!

    • Thank you for visiting, Jennifer! It’s good to know where you found us. Your Buttermilk Honey Bread recipe from last week is in my bread maker as I type this. It sure smells good – I can’t wait for it to be done! 🙂

  4. Hi April,
We are showing signs of spring just like you and it is so exciting. Hope you have a Valentine Week filled with Love and thanks so much for the party!

  5. sweet features thank you for being our gracious hostess

  6. Hi April! You are very sweet to feature my Valentine Wreaths this week! Thank you for the feature and for hosting your party. You are lucky to be seeing signs of spring. Here in southern New England we have 3 to 4 feet of snow and bitter cold temps. No sign of spring for awhile. At least the sun feels warmer and the snow looks pretty.
Have a lovely week and a Happy Valentine’s Day!
    LuAnn 😉

    • It’s my pleasure, LuAnn. Wow, 3 to 4 feet of snow – I remember what that is like from growing up in Canada! As you say, at least when the sun is shining it’s really pretty. Hope you don’t get any more though!

  7. Thanks for the party! I am soo ready for spring!

  8. Hi April I’ve shared my recipe for a healthier cake – a plain grain free sponge cake from the archives. Everyone needs a basic plain sponge recipe don’t they?

Hope you’re having a fantastic week so far!

    Vicky x

    • Hi Vicky, I agree – there is nothing like a plain sponge – in fact there is very little about it that is plain except the name 😉 It’s great to see a gluten free version! My week is going well – hope yours is too!

  9. Happy Valentines to you April.
My 13 year old daughter wants to eliminate the romance part all together and just make it Chocolate Day. Maybe when she gets a little older she’ll appreciate a bit of romance. Have a wonderful weekend.

  10. April,
I wish we were seeing signs of spring but we’re buried under snow! Thanks for hosting!
