I think visiting someone’s home is a great way to get to know them better, so I’d like to welcome you to mine. As the kitchen is the heart of the home, I thought we would start here.
The striped sofa was the sofa from our living room in our previous home. We had new furniture for our living room when we moved and it just seemed to belong in the kitchen. I love how it encourages people to sit down and chat, and although we have other rooms downstairs including a dining room and living room, people usually end up in the kitchen when we entertain!
Our kitchen table belonged to my maternal Grandma. It was in the kitchen my Mom grew up in, and when I was a child it was our dining room table. It means so much to me that five generations of our family have sat around it.
This sideboard sits just behind the table. It still has a fairly large claw mark from when our wonderful late cat Woody tried to jump up on it, slipped, tried to hang on and slid straight off. He was uninjured but mortified. It really was funny. I don’t think I could ever repair it; every time I notice it, it makes me smile.
You may have seen this photograph before 🙂 The stove top is called a ‘hob’ here and is built into the kitchen counter. You can just see it behind me under the silver extractor fan. There is a built in fridge freezer and dishwasher in the units behind me as well, although you may have noticed a big American style fridge/freezer in the photograph of our kitchen table. British fridges and freezers can be quite tiny and we needed more space!
The kitchen is probably my favourite room in our house, as it’s always full of people when we entertain, and is the place we spend the most time together as a family. I’ll share more of our home in future posts, as and when I can persuade my very patient photographer son to photograph it for me!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Rebecca 🙂
Just saw this on Twitter… I know I’m overly nosy, but I do enjoy peeking at where online friends “really” live 🙂
Thank you, April.
I’m like that too, Pauline 🙂 I love a little glimpse into the world of my online friends!
