Pears have been a well-loved fruit throughout history. They are mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey and were grown in England as far back as Roman times. These days, here in the UK they really come into their own in the autumn, when they are available in abundance. Low in calories and high in nutrients and fibre, pears are delicious in both sweet and savoury dishes alike and they make a healthy snack too.
Pears have always been a favourite in my family, whether enjoyed fresh and juicy or baked into something delicious. Their delicate sweetness makes them perfect for everything from everyday dishes to impressive desserts, and you’ll find some of my best pear recipes right here.
