Imagine getting to spend a night in one of the most luxurious suites in England! Well, thanks to my lovely husband, we spent a night in the Lady Astor Suite at Cliveden House Hotel, and it truly was amazing. A sumptuous haven of comfort and style, over the years the Lady Astor Suite has played host to royalty, stars of stage and screen, and me!
Cliveden has a colourful and fascinating history, and I was so excited to be staying in the room that belonged to Lady Nancy Astor herself. It’s also said to be the room Meghan Markle stayed in the night before her wedding. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to Cliveden at least once after that, staying in Spring Cottage, a small property on the estate.
The bed in the Lady Astor Suite was SO comfortable, and I loved the beautiful bed dressings in my favourite colours.
There are nods to Nancy throughout the suite, including a pillow embroidered with the letter ‘N’ on the chaise lounge. The suite retains a fireplace surround that dates back to the time of Elizabeth I.
The Lady Astor Suite Bathroom
The bathroom is pure luxury, with a marble bathtub and his and her sinks, as well as a separate shower cubicle. There is also a lovely nook with a vanity table and stool. It was so much fun getting dressed up for dinner and doing my makeup at the vanity table in these gorgeous surroundings.
If you are one of those people (like me!) who finds it hard to pack light, there is plenty of space for everything with a large closet in the main suite and another in the bathroom, as well as several chests of drawers.
A Room with a View
The Lady Astor Suite boasts a huge outdoor terrace which overlooks the parterre (a level space in a garden with ornamental flower beds). Unfortunately it was a bit overcast the day we visited but we still enjoyed the view.
You can see the view of the terrace from the ground in the photo on the top left. It covers the whole of the space above the three arched ground floor windows. There are lounge chairs as well as a table and chairs (out of shot) on the terrace.
As it was a bit too grey to sit outside, we enjoyed a glass of champagne in the suite before we went down to dinner in the beautiful Cliveden Dining Room.
We had the most wonderful time on this, our second visit, to Cliveden. I’ve been privileged to stay in many beautiful hotels and suites and I can say with no hesitation that the Lady Astor Suite is one of my favourite suites in England. That said, not long ago we returned to Cliveden for a third visit, staying in the Prince of Wales Suite. Oh my, it was even more incredible. I will be sharing more about it very soon. Watch this space!

Delighted to see the bathroom doesn’t date back to Elizabethan times. Looks marvellous. Glad you got to enjoy it.
