Whether you are travelling as much as before the advent of Covid or armchair travel is still just fine for now, you won’t want to miss these five places I can’t wait to visit again.
It’s no secret that I’ve really missed travelling over the past couple of years, as have so many others! I’m excited now that travel abroad is a big part of our life once again. These five places are some of the locations I love to return again and again. I hope they will inspire your travels as well.
5 Places I Can’t Wait To Visit Again
Edinburgh, Scotland
Update January 2023 -We had a wonderful visit to Edinburgh this month to celebrate two very special birthdays.
A visit to Edinburgh makes a perfect short break or a great addition to any tour of the United Kingdom. This ancient city, overlooked by the stronghold that is Edinburgh Castle, is rich in history, culture and scenery. It’s also one of the most hospitable cities I have ever visited. Whether you are a fan of history, delicious food and drink or Harry Potter, this is the place for you! You can find out more about my favourite places to stay, explore, eat and indulge during a visit to Edinburgh in A Weekend in Edinburg. And if you are a fan of royalty, you won’t want to miss our visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia. Edinburgh is definitely a place I can’t wait to visit again. I have a lot more exploring to do!
Venice, Italy
I’ve been to Venice three times, and it seems to get better every time. On our last visit we went all out, arriving in style on a private launch and staying in a beautiful suite at our favourite Venice hotel. It was such a special treat! There’s so much to see and do in Venice, from visiting St Mark’s Basilica to the amazing Rialto market and the outlying islands – not to mention sampling all the delicious food. You won’t want to miss exploring Venice by gondola – it’s one of those experiences you will remember forever.
Oahu, Hawaii
Update September 2022 – We have recently returned to Oahu and I look forward to sharing more about our visit!
On both occasions that we visited, a very comfortable flight on Hawaiian Airlines and the warm welcome we received at The Ritz Carlton Residences at Waikiki Beach got our holiday in Oahu off to an excellent start. Our luxurious suites offered amazing views over the island and the beach.
Honolulu is a study in contrasts, with high end stores dotted in amongst some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. The beaches are clean and friendly, and if you want to sightsee, there is plenty on offer. Energetic souls can climb Diamond Head, history buffs will be moved by the living, working monument that is Pearl Harbour and exploring Turtle Bay was an experience I’ll never forget.
We loved Hawaiian cuisine and visited some excellent restaurants including Orchid’s and Alan Wong’s.
Hamilton, Bermuda
My husband and I visited Bermuda in 2016, and it has been one of the places I can’t wait to visit again ever since. Stunning scenery, beautiful blue sea, pink sands and lots of sunshine made this one of my favourite holidays ever.
There is such a relaxed vibe and people are super friendly. We so enjoyed our stay at the Hamilton Princess Hotel. It was a great place to soak up the sun. We did lots of sightseeing too. My favourite places included Horseshoe Bay with its amazing pink sand, The Royal Naval Dockyards and the historic town of St George.
Ontario, Canada
Update November 2022 – We have just returned from a three week visit to Canada, spending time in both Ontario and Québec.
Travel restrictions during the pandemic that I was prevented from visiting my home province of Ontario, so it isn’t surprising that it is one of the places I can’t wait to visit again. A vast province that obviously holds a very special place in my heart, Ontario is home to many of my extended family members. However, it is also a great place to holiday even if you don’t know anyone who lives there!
Whether you enjoy the big city life of Toronto with its charming Distillery District, the majesty of Niagara Falls, the glorious scenery in Muskoka, or the fine dining to be found just about everywhere these days, Ontario makes a wonderful multi-destination holiday every season of the year. There’s plenty for everyone to enjoy, with a vibrant cultural scene includes over 700 museums as well as music, art and theatre festivals. I love the Shaw Festival in Niagara on the Lake and the Stratford Festival offers Shakespearean plays every bit as good as those I’ve seen in Stratford-on-Avon in England.
Ontario’s only Relais and Chateaux hotel, Langdon Hall Country House Hotel and Spa is a favourite of mine. Located in Cambridge, Ontario, not far from where I was born, this luxurious hotel offers fine dining that is second to none and is a great place for a romantic weekend getaway.
Just the Beginning of the Places I Can’t Wait To Visit Again
This list barely scratches the surface of all the places I hope to visit and re-visit time and time again. Have you been travelling recently? If not, where would you like to visit when you are ready to travel again?
Places I Can’t Wait To Visit Again – Important Note
Please note, this post was originally written in 2020. I’m pleased to report that as of this update in January 2023, we have returned to Oahu, Canada and Edinburgh. We have also visited California, another one of the places I yearned for during the travel restrictions.

Very cool list of places, April! I was lucky enough to visit all of the Hawaiian islands before my husband retired as an American Airlines pilot. (If there was an open seat, I could tag along.) I’d like to see more of Maui and Lihue if given the opportunity. Spain is at the top of my list of places I’ve never been.

Thank you, Michelle! How lovely you got to see so much of the Hawaiian islands. I feel like we’ve barely scratched the surface of this amazing place! Spain really is a wonderful place to visit, and I hope you are able to get there one day soon. I’ve been to Mallorca in the Balearic Islands many times. In terms of mainland Spain, I’ve only been to Madrid so I’ve got a few more places to check out as well!

I’ve been to all 5 of your top 5 and completely agree they are all “must return” places!
I live in Ontario and there’s so much to see especially outside of the cities.Northern Ontario in particular is spectacular.
I have a similar post coming out shortly funny enough. I guess we all have travel withdrawal and are itching to be able to travel freely again. But unfortunately things will not be the same for a long long time, if ever. Places like Venice can use the break though, when I was there last, it was ridiculously packed and I ended up taking my daughter deep into the labyrinth of streets so she could experience a more authentic vibe, that unfortunately is gone from the main areas.
Enjoyed your post!Have a great week.

Thank you, Mary! I agree, Northern Ontario is amazing. We were lucky enough to spend some time on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka last summer and what a joy it was. We always went to Muskoka (Lake Joseph in particular) for holidays when I was a child, and I truly took the spectacular scenery for granted. What a pleasure it was to see it again as an adult and really appreciate it.
I agree with you about Venice as well. We always go sightseeing in the busy areas first thing when it’s quiet and explore deeper in the labyrinth of streets as things get busy. I think Venice gets even more fascinating when you go beneath the touristy bits! I hope you have a lovely week as well.
