Statement necklaces can really help you make the most of your wardrobe. They can revitalise old favourites and tie together pieces that you might not have put together before, as well as elevating a plain dress to something very special indeed.
Statement necklaces are also a boon if you travel a lot as they are tiny to pack but big on style. A couple of statement necklaces tucked in a suitcase with a plain black or navy dress and a scarf and you are good to go for a stylish weekend away.
A statement necklace can make even the most basic outfit stylish. Here I’ve paired a Tempest Necklace from Stella and Dot with plain trousers and a colourful top.
These photos were taken back in 2013, but I’m still wearing this necklace regularly! On that occasion, it was perfect for pre-dinner drinks as well as a surprise dinner at a special restaurant.
Although statement necklaces can be expensive, their sheer versatility means the cost per wear can actually be pretty reasonable. Some, like the Tempest necklace above, give two looks for the price of one as they are reversible. You can also wear the Tempest with the clasp showing for a completely different look.
Tips for Choosing a Great Statement Necklace
Choose a necklace with colours that suit your wardrobe or a strong stand alone piece in a neutral colour like black, white or navy.
This reversible white Fiona bib necklace by Stella and Dot goes with everything from jeans to dresses. Regardless of the colour of my outfit, the white necklace really makes it pop.
Look for pieces that can be worn in different ways – either reversible necklaces or those that can be worn with the clasp showing or without. Some necklaces even convert from short to long. You want a piece you can really work.
Go for quality over quantity – one or two necklaces can go a long way, particularly if you wear them with lots of different looks.
Instead of spending lots of money on new clothes this spring, consider investing in a statement necklace to bring new life to the great pieces you already own. It will give both you and your wardrobe a lift!
