Blogging can be a wonderful way to engage your customers, showcase your products, create community and drive sales. However, if you are going to use a blog to promote your business, you need it to be effective. Like any other marketing strategy, a blog takes time, effort and money.
Without good SEO (search engine optimisation), sound blog structure and a carefully thought-out plan, your blog posts won’t rank highly enough on Google for anyone to find them. This means a very poor return on your investment of time and money.
The worst thing is when you put in loads of time and effort, and the response to your latest blog post is *crickets*. Between keywords, SEO, photographs and proper blog structure, it can be very overwhelming. What’s the difference between a blog and a blog post? Then there’s the question of what to write about. A blog full of stock images and ‘sales-y’ posts makes it difficult to convert readers to customers.
However if you outsource your whole blog to a copywriter without staying truly engaged in the process, it’s unlikely you are going to get the results you hope for. One of the main purposes of blogging for your business is to help create the know, like and trust factor. You personally need to be involved (even if you don’t write every single word) for that to happen.
