I love shopping at Farmer’s Markets and I make a point of visiting them wherever I go. It’s wonderful to have the freshest local fruit and vegetables, artisanal cheeses, meat and fish all in the same place. My favourites include St Lawrence Market in Toronto, Pike Place Market in Seattle, The English Market in Cork, and now, Covent Garden Market in London, Ontario. Our son Alex is living in our family apartment in London while he attends college there, so it was even more fun to visit this market as I could actually buy things to prepare and cook. In fact, Alex does about eighty percent of his shopping there. (Thanks also to Alex for the wonderful pictures in this post.)
There is a huge selection of fresh vegetables and fruit.
We can get lovely fresh organic meat at Field Gate Organics.
We bought some delicious local Ontario cheeses as well as a very tasty British Double Gloucester at Smith Cheese Inc.
There are lots of other wonderful vendors at the market; fishmongers, bakeries, clothing, craft and flower vendors and even a very interesting Tea Haus.
They have almost every imaginable tea blend, from black and green teas to fruit teas. One of my favourites is their Canadian Breakfast Tea, while Alex prefers their Russian Earl Grey.
If you find yourself in or near London while in Southern Ontario, do make a point of visiting Covent Garden Market which is open daily. From 4th May they also have an additional outdoor market Thursday and Saturday mornings. For opening hours and a market calendar, please click here.

I’m in London all the time and I’ve never actually gone to the market. I have friends who shop there and love it. I’ll have to schedule some time when I’m next there. 🙂

We are in the London area every couple of months visiting our son. Maybe we can meet up for a coffee sometime 🙂

Reminds me of our Granville Island Market. If you ever come to Vancouver, let me know, I would be happy to show you around Granville Island Market. It’s one of my favourite places to shop, or to just hang out and take photographs 🙂

Thank you so much, Laureen! Vancouver is definitely high up on my list of places I want to go. The closest I’ve been so far is Seattle, but I’m working on it 🙂 I’ll definitely let you know if we are planning to visit.
