Sausages are a suppertime favourite in England and these three easy sausage recipes will definitely give you an idea of why this is the case. Quick to cook, nutritious and delicious, these recipes are perfect for busy weeknights but they work really well at dinner parties too. However, before I share the recipes, I want to talk about the main ingredient itself.
It’s incredibly important to buy high quality sausages, preferably those made with free range, pasture raised or organic meat. The whole reason sausages are nicknamed ‘bangers’ is that they had such a high water content during wartime rationing that they often exploded in the pan. Good quality sausages are made of high quality meat, bread, herbs, spices and very little water. Lower quality sausages may contain connective tissues, fat, parts of the animal you would really rather not eat, water, additives and preservatives.
I buy sausages exclusively from my local butcher. They are made on site using pork from local farms and have very high meat content. Never buy a sausage labeled “economy”. A high quality vegetarian sausage would be much more nutritious and taste better too. You could definitely use vegetarian sausages in any of my easy sausage recipes.
You can buy so many different flavours of sausages these days. My local butcher makes several varieties, from Pork with Caramelized Onion or Apple and Cheddar to Rustic Italian and Spicy Lamb, as well as more traditional sausages. You can easily switch up my easy sausage recipes by using different flavour sausages.
And now, for the recipes!
For an easy dinner that’s special enough for guests, try my Spicy Sausage Pasta. It’s easy to adapt the spicing to suit your own personal tastes.
My warm Wild Rice Salad with Sausages and Apple makes a light and delicious supper any time of year.
This Sausage and Apple One Pot can be made ahead, making it perfect for busy weeknights, entertaining or a super easy Sunday lunch.
As you can see from these three recipes, there’s way more to sausages than Sausages and Mash – as tasty as this traditional dish is! What’s your favourite way to serve sausages?

Sausage and apple is such a great combination. The rice salad is especially appealing and novel. Pinned!

Growing up, I disliked sausage so much! Now I cook it often. I’m fortunate to live in an area where really good fresh and smoked sausages are made. My favorite way to eat sausage is smoky sausage paired with shrimp.
Thank you for sharing, April. Hope you are having a nice week!
