
There’s something so comforting about a meal made with good quality sausages – it’s a bit of a treat, yet still wholesome. In this collection of easy sausage recipes, you will find delicious inspiration for cooking with all kinds of sausages including the vegetarian or vegan variety.

Before we begin, a quick note on choosing sausages, because it really does make all the difference.
Choosing Good Quality Sausages
It is really important to buy high quality sausages, preferably those made with free range, pasture raised or organic meat. In most instances, I buy sausages exclusively from my local butcher, where they are handmade in house.
Commercially made sausages often have a lot of filler and preservatives. The whole reason sausages are nicknamed ‘bangers’ in the UK is that they had such a high water content during wartime rationing that they often exploded in the pan. Of course times have changed, but there are still some sausages that have questionable ingredients. Lower quality sausages may contain connective tissues, fat, parts of the animal you would really rather not eat, water, additives and preservatives.
Most plant-based sausages are a healthier option, despite being processed. I have tried a couple of different varieties of vegetarian sausages in all of these recipes with good results, although the flavour is sometimes better when I use sausages made with meat. You do need to adjust the cooking times when you are using plant based alternatives, according to the package instructions.

Growing up, I disliked sausage so much! Now I cook it often. I’m fortunate to live in an area where really good fresh and smoked sausages are made. My favorite way to eat sausage is smoky sausage paired with shrimp.
